Walking Through the Valley of Farewell
Mark 14:34-36 (NKJV)
Grief is not a sign of weak faith; it is a testament to deep love. As you watch your parent approach the end of their earthly journey, the weight of impending separation can feel like an agonizing weight. In these moments, we can look to our Savior in the Garden of Gethsemane. Christ Himself experienced a soul exceedingly sorrowful, knowing the pain and separation that lay ahead of Him. He did not hide His anguish, nor did He weep in shame. By entering into our human sorrow, Jesus hallowed the valley of grief. He understands the agonizing prayer that asks for the cup of loss to be removed, just as He understands the ultimate surrender to God's sovereign timing. You do not have to carry your sorrow with a stoic, unfeeling countenance. Bring your tears, your fears, and your heavy heart to the Father, who kneels beside you in your Gethsemane, offering the comfort of His presence as you prepare to let go.
