“Tell me, O you whom my soul loves, where you feed your flock, where you make it rest at noon. For why should I be as one who veils herself by the flocks of your companions? If you do not know, O fairest among women, follow the tracks of the flock, and feed your young goats beside the shepherds’ tents.”
Context Behind the Verse
In the allegorical beauty of the Song of Solomon, we observe a tender dialogue between the beloved and her shepherd-king. She desires to be in his presence and to share in his daily labor, asking where he tends his flock during the heat of the day. The answer given is simple yet profound: follow the established path and tend to the small, vulnerable ones nearby.
Serving our Savior is rarely found in grand, self-directed endeavors. Instead, it is found in walking the ordinary paths where His people are gathered and tending to the quiet needs right before us. The call to “feed your young goats beside the shepherds’ tents” reminds us that love expresses itself through tangible, daily care. Service to God is intimately connected to serving those He has entrusted to our fellowship.
When we seek to draw closer to Christ, He invariably directs our gaze toward others. We find His presence not by withdrawing into isolation, but by rolling up our sleeves and serving alongside the community of faith. Every humble act of care for a neighbor, a child, or a struggling believer becomes a sweet offering of devotion to our King.

Lord Jesus, direct my steps today to the places where You are at work. Open my eyes to notice the vulnerable and overlooked around me who need a gentle hand. Let my love for You overflow into quiet, faithful service to Your flock. Amen.
