The Patience of the Husbandman

VOD204

James 5:7 (NASB)

“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains.”

Context Behind the Verse

One of the hardest aspects of starting over is the waiting. We want the new beginning to be a finished product immediately. We want the pain to vanish and the new plan to be fully realized by nightfall. But the spiritual life follows the rhythm of the harvest. After the ground has been plowed up by sudden change, there is a season of waiting where nothing seems to be happening. The seed is beneath the soil, and the fields look barren.

However, the “Husbandman” is not idle. The rains are falling, and the roots are deepening. If you find yourself in a season of waiting after a great upheaval, do not mistake the silence for absence. God is working in the hidden places of your soul. Patience is not merely “marking time”; it is a holy expectation. Trust the timing of the Lord, for the fruit that grows from the soil of suffering is often the sweetest of all.

Prayer for the Day

Lord, grant me the grace of holy patience as I wait for Thy work to be revealed. Help me not to hurry Thy hand or to fret over the slowness of my progress. I trust that Thou art cultivating a harvest in my life that will bring Thee glory. Amen.
