Anchored in Eternal Grace
2 Thessalonians 2:16 (NIV)
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
Context Behind the Verse
We end our week-long journey with this beautiful benediction. Notice the order: It is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father who initiates this blessing. The foundation of our entire life, and specifically of our rest, is that He loved us. Out of that love, by His grace, He gave us something eternal: eternal encouragement and good hope. Our source of strength for every good deed and word, our service during the active seasons is rooted in this eternal encouragement. The new beginning is not something we fabricate out of our own strength; it is fueled by the grace and love that are already ours in Christ. The rest we are encouraged to enter this week isn’t an end in itself; it’s the place where we allow this eternal encouragement to deeply penetrate our souls, quieting our anxieties and anchoring our hope. Rest in that love today. Allow God the Father to encourage Your heart directly. Then, you will be prepared, strengthened, and ready to meet whatever new beginning He calls you into, knowing that His eternal grace will sustain you every step of the way.
Prayer for the Day
Lord God, our Eternal Encouragement and Good Hope, we thank You for Your unwavering love and the grace that sustains us. We rest in You today, allowing Your Spirit to strengthen our hearts and prepare us for every good deed and word. Lead us gracefully into the new beginnings You have ordained. Amen.
