First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

Today, as our nation marks its historic 250th anniversary, our thoughts naturally turn to the blessings of liberty, heritage, and the enduring ideals that shape our land. Amidst the parades and celebrations, Scripture provides the believer with a profound civic duty that is rooted entirely in Agape love: the ministry of intercession. Paul instructs us that our first and most critical response to our nation and its leaders is to pray.
True love for our neighbors extends to the society we inhabit together. We pray for those in authority regardless of political season or party not for personal advantage, but so that a harvest of peace may flourish. Almighty God, today we give You profound thanks for the immense blessings of liberty and for the rich history of our nation over these past 250 years. We lift up our leaders and all who are in authority, asking that You grant them wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to justice.
