The Slow Growth of a Peaceable Outcome
James 5:7 (NKJV)
Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.
Context Behind the Verse
We live in an era of immediate results, and when we encounter difficult people, we often want the conflict resolved now. This passage uses the image of a farmer to teach us a vital lesson. A farmer does not see immediate growth; they must wait for seasons of rain, cultivating the ground with hope and endurance. So it is in our difficult relationships. The change we hope to see—a more reasonable attitude, a shared understanding of priorities, or even just a reduction in conflict—may not be immediate. We are not in control of the growth of another’s heart, but we are called to be patient. We tend our own responses, sowing gentleness and consistency, and then we trust that God will provide the necessary growth in His own time. We wait not in despair but with a hopeful eye on the precious fruit that patient endurance can produce.
Prayer for the Day
Lord, teach me the patience of the farmer who trusts in the process of growth. When I see no change in difficult relationships, help me to remain faithful in planting seeds of kindness and peace. I leave the results to You, trusting in Your timing.
