Trusting God for the Final Victory

Obadiah 1:17 (NASB)

But on Mount Zion there will be those who escape, and it will be holy. And the house of Jacob will possess their possessions.

Context Behind the Verse

The short prophecy of Obadiah is primarily a judgment against Edom for their pride and mistreatment of Israel. However, amidst the declarations of doom for Edom, verse 17 shines a beam of hope for God’s people. The house of Jacob had been scattered and dispossessed, but the promise here is one of total restoration. They will not only return to Mount Zion, but they will possess their possessions inheriting everything God intended for them. This speaks of a rest that comes from secure ownership and divine vindication. When we face opposition or feel that we have lost ground, our rest is found in this promise: God is a restorer. The new beginning isn’t just starting over; it’s stepping into the fullness of our inheritance. This requires a settled confidence that God wins the ultimate battle. True rest is ceasing from our own striving to vindicate ourselves or reclaim what was lost, and instead, trusting fully that God will fight for us. Let this confidence quiet your soul today, knowing that Your future is secure in His triumphant hand.

Prayer for the Day

Lord God, our Restorer, we thank You for the promise that You will vindicate Your people and restore what has been lost. Help us to rest in this truth, ceasing our own striving and trusting You for the final victory. Prepare us to step into the full inheritance You have secured for us. Amen.
