Provision for the Impossible Task
Exodus 3:11-12 (NASB)
But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?” And He said, “Certainly I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God at this mountain.”
Context Behind the Verse
Moses’s fresh start was perhaps the most intimidating job description in history. He was called from the quiet life of a shepherd to confront the most powerful monarch on earth and lead an enslaved nation to freedom. His immediate response was profound humility, bordering on reluctance: Who am I? Many of us feel this dynamic when we start new work. The new responsibilities loom large, and we feel utterly unqualified, acutely aware of our limitations.
God’s response, however, did not soothe Moses ego or list his qualifications. God’s answer was simple and sufficient: Certainly, I will be with you. The assurance of God’s presence is the defining asset in any new assignment. If the task is truly from Him, He does not call you based on your current adequacy but based on His willingness to provide what you need. Moses’s new work was impossible on his own, but it was guaranteed because of WHO sent him. Lean into that same promise today. Your qualifications may feel small, but the God who is with you is immeasurably large.
Prayer for the Day
Lord God, the Alpha and Omega, I confess that I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the demands of this new season. I know that in my own strength I am inadequate, but I find my confidence in Your promise to be with me. Grant me Your presence and let that be my sign and my strength as I labor today. Amen.
