Serving When Your Own Ground is Shaking
As we have reflected in our recent Verse of the Day series, many in our community are navigating a season where the landscape feels increasingly fragile. Whether it is the weight of global instability or the more personal, quiet anxiety of vocational transitions, it is natural to want to hunker down and focus solely on our own survival.
However, the paradox of the Gospel is that we often find our greatest stability not by pulling inward, but by reaching outward to serve others.
Finding the Shadow While Standing in the Gap
In our top-performing reflection on Psalm 91:4, we spoke about finding refuge under His wings. It is important to remember that a refuge is not just a place for us to hide it is a base of operations. When we are tucked into the Shadow of the Almighty, we are empowered to become a shadow of protection for someone else who is even more vulnerable.
Serving others during your own downtime isn’t just about charity; it’s about maintaining the integrity of the entire system. When you serve others while going through your own storm, you are demonstrating that your identity is anchored in Christ, not in your current circumstances.
Service as a Pathway to Peace
We recently explored the Peace of the Surrendered Mind (Isaiah 26:3). One of the most effective ways to surrender a worried mind is to fill your hands with the work of the Kingdom.
- The Displaced: Just as we prayed for those affected by recent global disasters, we can look for the displaced in our own neighborhoods, those who feel lost or forgotten.
- The Vulnerable: Being the physical presence of Christ’s love means showing up even when you feel you have little to give.
God does not call the equipped; He equips the called.
If you are waiting for your own life to be perfect before you serve, you may miss the very miracle God has for you through your service.
A Call to Action for our Sanctuary
This week, I challenge you to look beyond your own dry season. Find one person who needs a word of hope and share it. Whether it’s a neighbor facing job loss or someone just needing a reminder of John 8:12, let us be the light that shines even brighter because of the darkness around us.
Keep seeking, keep kneeling, and keep abiding.
