Strength for the Work at Hand
Haggai 2:4 (NIV)
"'But now be strong, Zerubbabel,' declares the LORD. 'Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,' declares the LORD, 'and work. For I am with you,' declares the LORD Almighty."
Context Behind the Verse
Often, waiting for God’s will is not about sitting still; it is about working on the task He has already given us while we wait for the greater vision to unfold. The people of Israel were discouraged, looking at the ruins of the temple and feeling that their efforts were small and insignificant. Yet, God’s command was clear: be strong and work. The promise that fueled their labor was not a guarantee of immediate glory, but the assurance of His presence: For I am with you.
Obedience in the waiting room of life often looks like mundane faithfulness. It is the daily grind, the rebuilding of the walls, and the tending of the small things. We often want the grand reveal of God’s will, but He invites us into the quiet work of the present. Your current labor is not a distraction from your destiny; it is the very thing God is using to shape you. Be strong in your current calling, knowing that the Lord Almighty is standing beside you in the dust of the work.
Prayer for the Day
Lord, give me the strength to be faithful in the work You have placed before me today. Help me not to despise small beginnings or slow progress. I take comfort in knowing that You are with me in every effort and every hour. Amen.
