Keeping Yourself in Love

Jude 1:21 (NIV)

"Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life." Jude 1:21 (NIV)

Context Behind the Verse

As we conclude this week of reflection, we find the ultimate anchor for the waiting soul: the love of God. To keep yourself in His love is the highest form of obedience. It is the act of refusing to believe the lies of the enemy when the wait is long lies that say God has forgotten you or that His love has grown cold. Waiting for the final mercy of Christ is the ultimate context of the Christian life.

Obedience while waiting is simply staying at home in the Father’s affection. When we wander away from the assurance of His love, waiting becomes a burden and obedience becomes a chore. But when we are rooted in the knowledge that we are beloved, we can wait with joy. We know that the one we are waiting for is the one who loves us most. Let His love be the room you stay in, the air you breathe, and the ground you stand on. The wait will eventually end in a glorious arrival, but until then, you are safe in His embrace.

Prayer for the Day

Heavenly Father, thank You for the security of Your eternal love. Help me to rest in that love every day as I wait for the fulfillment of Your promises. May my heart stay close to Yours until the day I see You face to face. Amen.
