The Undying Love of the Father
1 John 3:1 (NIV)
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
Context Behind the Verse
One of the deepest pains of losing a parent is the impending loss of the parental role in our lives. No matter how old we become, we still long to be children to be protected, advised, and unconditionally loved by those who raised us. As a parent’s strength wanes, that earthly shelter begins to dissolve, leaving us feeling exposed and orphaned in a vast, indifferent world.
It is precisely within this void that the Holy Spirit pours the healing balm of our spiritual adoption. The Apostle John invites us to marvel at the lavish, unalterable love of God, who calls us His own children. When your earthly mother or father can no longer protect or comfort you, your Heavenly Father remains entirely unchanged. His parenthood is infinite, perfect, and completely immune to death. In the difficult days of caregiving and the dark nights of mourning, rest in the truth that you are deeply loved, fiercely protected, and eternally held as a child of the Most High God.
Prayer for the Day
Father of mercies, in this season where I feel the impending loss of my earthly parent’s care, remind me that I am forever Your child. Lavish Your comfort upon my hurting soul and fill the empty spaces with Your abiding presence. Help me to find my ultimate security and identity in Your unchanging love. Thank You for never leaving me nor forsaking me. Amen.
