Be Strong and Courageous: The Lord Goes Before You

VOD420

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Context Behind the Verse

The Israelites stood on the edge of the Promised Land, a terrifying unknown after decades of wandering in the wilderness. Moses, their leader, was passing the mantle. Fear was logical. Yet his command was to be strong and courageous. He based this strength not on their own abilities, but on a promise: the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. In our own lives, when pain casts a long shadow, whether the constant ache of a physical ailment or the heavy fog of mental distress, we often feel abandoned. We scan the horizon, seeing only the obstacles. This ancient promise cuts through the static. Moving forward through pain does not require us to find hidden reserves of strength, but to lean completely on God’s persistent presence. He is the constant in our variable suffering. His promise is not a temporary comfort but an unbreakable covenant. We step forward not because the pain has ceased, but because He has promised to be in every difficult step, guiding and upholding us. His presence is the anchor that allows us to find courage when we feel most vulnerable.

Prayer for the Day

Father, we acknowledge our frailty and how easily our hearts are overwhelmed by the pain we carry. When we are tempted to stand still, give us the courage to move forward, believing that You are indeed with us. May the reality of Your constant presence quiet our anxieties and fuel our endurance. Amen.

Inspirational Quote

“He that is with you, will not leave you, nor forsake you; for he cannot. Look backward, and see how many Ebenezers you have already erected; then look forward, and see how many pillars of mercy shall yet be built up.”
