Worthy of His Calling: Stewarding Our God-Given Purpose

VOD308

2 Thessalonians 1:11 (NIV)

With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.

Context Behind the Verse

When we face a new opportunity, our first impulse is often to focus on the logistics the strategy, the required resources, or the potential for success. But this passage reminds us that the primary focus of stewardship must be our spiritual alignment with God’s purpose. Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonians is that God would make them worthy of their calling and that His power would bring their faithful desires to fruition.

Stewardship, in this context, is not just about managing resources; it is about managing the mission God has entrusted to us. We are called to be faithful caretakers of the opportunities He provides. This means recognizing that any good desire or deed prompted by faith within us is initiated by God, and its fulfillment depends entirely upon His strength, not our own striving. When we approach new opportunities with humility, acknowledging our dependence on Him, we move from being owners of our plans to being stewards of His purposes. The weight of success is lifted off our shoulders, replaced by the joyful responsibility of faithful participation in His work.

Prayer for the Day

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the new opportunity You have placed before me. Please grant me the grace and strength to honor You in this season, and refine my heart so that my desires align with Your will. May this work be accomplished not by my own efforts, but through Your power working within me. I commit this new beginning to You. Amen.
