Committing Plans to Divine Guidance

Proverbs 16:3 (NASB)

Commit your works to the LORD, and your plans will be established.

Context Behind the Verse

A new opportunity brings with it excitement, ambition, and a flood of plans. It is often the time when our human ingenuity works overtime, plotting the course of success. But the core of stewardship in this season is not how many brilliant strategies we can conjure; it is the act of committing those plans to the Lord. The Hebrew word implies rolling a heavy burden onto another. As we face new doors, we are not called to shoulder the weight of establishing the outcome. Good stewardship does not seek self-establishment. Instead, we humbly roll the new work, the projections, and the potential pitfalls into the capable hands of God. By dedicating the entire opportunity to Him at the outset, we are freed from the anxiety of making it succeed. Our plans, now unified with His purposes, will be established according to His definition of success. The image of the pilgrim at the crossroads, looking to a celestial compass rather than their own path, illustrates this surrender of direction. We commit to the opportunity; He establishes the steps.

Prayer for the Day

Sovereign Lord, You are the Alpha and Omega, holding all time in Your hand. As we step into new opportunities, we confess how quickly we rely on our own cleverness. Grant us the humility to commit all our works, all our hopes, and all our plans entirely to You. Establish our steps, and may Your will be done in and through us. Amen.
